What are the top selling item for a small wine and spirits shop?
Create interactive dashboard using sales data pulled from the store's POS displaying SKU sales data over time with the ability to filter by category and vendor.
This is an interactive Tableau dashboard that showcases comprehensive sales data of SKU's over time in a wine store. This project was initiated in response to a client's request for detailed information on the store's sales data, enabling them to make informed decisions while purchasing inventory. This client had just entered into contract to purchase and needed an overview of item sales performance for his new business. I embarked on this project with the primary objective of analyzing and visualizing the sales data of SKU's in the wine store.
I initiated the project by extracting data from the Point of Sale (POS) system of the wine store. This involved obtaining three separate CSV files: one containing line item sales data covering a three-year span, another holding item category information, and the third encompassing sales vendor data.
With the raw data in hand, the next step was the crucial process of data transformation. I began by cleaning the line item sales data, removing unnecessary columns to streamline the dataset. To ensure its completeness, I swiftly created a time series in Excel. Additionally, the category table underwent a pivotal transformation using power query techniques, converting it from a wide to a long format, aligning it with the analysis requirements.
Finally, the transformed data was loaded into Tableau where I joined the line item sales data, item category data, and sales vendor data, I successfully consolidated information from various sources. This fusion enabled the incorporation of additional dimensions such as category and vendor, providing a comprehensive view of the sales data and setting the stage for insightful analysis.
The resulting interactive dashboard offers a user-friendly interface with several powerful features for analyzing the wine store's sales data:
Category and Vendor Filters: Easily filter the data by category and vendor, narrowing down your analysis based on specific product categories or preferred vendors.
Date Range Selection: Filter data by date range to zoom in on specific periods of interest for in-depth analysis.
Wildcard Search: Utilize the powerful wildcard search functionality to find specific products or keywords and gain insights into the performance of particular SKU's.
The Wine Store Sales Data Dashboard offers a comprehensive and interactive visualization of the store's sales data. This dashboard enables a deeper understanding of sales patterns, highlights top-performing products, and identifies potential areas for improvement or strategic business opportunities. This empowered the client to create data-driven strategy on which items, categories, and vendors to emphasize for his new wine shop.
